Why are German cockroaches so hard to get rid of?
German cockroaches live their whole lives indoors, in the warm, tight spaces behind fridges, dishwashers and cabinet hinges. One female can produce hundreds of offspring in a few months, and many populations resist the sprays sold in stores. American cockroaches, the large ones often called palmetto bugs, are different: they live outside and in sewers and come in through drains and gaps.
For German cockroaches we use gel baits placed in the cracks where they hide, plus an insect growth regulator that stops nymphs from becoming breeding adults, and we come back until they are gone. For American cockroaches we treat the perimeter, drains and entry points and seal the gaps they use.

What helps a cockroach treatment work?
Keep food sealed, empty pet bowls at night, run the dishwasher instead of leaving dishes in the sink and fix any leaks under sinks. Avoid spraying store products, which can drive roaches away from the baits and into the walls.
